Viola Sutanto is the founder of MAIKA, a lifestyle brand based in Oakland, California, creating sustainably made bags, accessories, and joy-driven experiences. Before MAIKA, she spent two decades building brands for clients like Chronicle Books, Design Within Reach, and Peet's Coffee.

Everything changed when her daughter was diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. Watching her find joy in the smallest moments reshaped how Viola thought about her own work. She started drawing one small joy a day, and that practice became an award-winning book, Eat Cake for Breakfast.

Today MAIKA has grown into a multi-channel brand spanning retail, licensing, and a growing national workshop program called Joy Workshops. Viola is a Tory Burch Foundation Founder's Award recipient, a Haas School of Business alum, and an author of two books. She believes joy isn't a luxury. It's a strategy.
