About the Business

Access Trax is a social impact company on a mission to make the outdoors and recreation accessible for all. Our durable, modular, portable access mats provide a firm and stable pathway for those who use mobility devices to easily access outdoor areas and recreation over sand, grass, gravel and more. We are proud to serve families, adaptive sports organizations, events, and government entities globally for enhanced inclusion. From weddings to national parks, to international sporting events, we make accessibility happen. Inspired by adaptive surfers and invented by occupational therapists in California, Access Trax provides Access for Life.

Kelly Twichel

Kelly Twichel is the CEO of award-winning accessibility startup Access Trax. As an OT student in 2016, Kelly was inspired by adaptive surfers to co-invent a modular portable pathway that empowers people with mobility disabilities to easily access outdoor terrain and recreation. What began as helping adaptive surfers cross the beach quickly turned into a powerful mission thanks to positive feedback from the early adopters paired with Kelly's passion for inclusion thanks to her mom who had a disability. In 2018, Kelly launched Access Trax which has since served families, nonprofits and governments across 20+ countries. Access Trax won the 2020 FedEx Small Business Grant Grand Prize and in 2021, the assistive tech product was granted a patent. Kelly is a founding member of the San Diego Mobility Community Access Partners and enjoys supporting events such as the World Para Surfing Championships. She envisions using her portable access pathways for athletes and spectators at the 2028 LA Paralympics.
